Full Moon In Pisces
On Saturday morning, September 10, the moon will reach culmination in the watery sign of Pisces. It is hard to dismiss all of the other astrological weather performing in the heavens at the same time. Mercury has just stationed retrograde in Libra, one sign away from its domicile in Virgo, making communication and peacekeeping a more labored challenge. The Moon has also just endured a square to Mars in Gemini, translating a frustrating light around mental focus and clarity. She then hits her opposition to the solar king who lives in logical Virgo, their meeting is not one of prductive reasoning but an attempt to draw out more poetic truths that run a silver thread in the collective unconscious.
I believe this is a point in all of our lives where our mental faculties, our tangible logic, may be murky and soupy. Thoughts will just slip away and productive reasoning is drowned out by lunar notions of more emotional truths. Use this weekend on more creative pursuits, or do nothing at all. Bathe yourself in more ethereal activities like swimming, dancing, writing, painting, chanting. Allow the mind to slip into spiritual waters and swim freely, not weighed down by lists, schedules and tasks. They will still be there on Monday.
As I write this, I have put music on to inspire thoughts and words to flow, for my linear mind is already feeling like its taking a hard right seeking the next words to connect. The full Piscean Moon is already impressing her energy onto me, and as a native with the Moon in Pisces, I know this will have a profound lunar effect on me.
This led me to look at artists born with the Moon full in Pisces, knowing this would be a signature of otherworldly more spiritual influence. I discovered Leonard Cohen had the culminating Moon in his chart. A Zen Buddhist whose baritone voice has a timeless haunting impression on the world. His lyrics dive so deep into the human experience one feels their own soul is transported through varying degrees of dark waters that seem to always be searching for the spark of the divine.
Moby is another artist who has this Pisces placement. His music has always seemed to be evoking worlds that do not fully live on this planet. There is an underlying thread in his music of mankind’s deep longing to be connected to something bigger, outside of our earthly realms. A song that immediately comes to mind off the album Everything is Wrong (featuring him underwater on the album cover,) “God Moving Over the Face of the Waters”. A dizzy array of piano, violin, and symphonic levels leaving the listener feeling connected to something deeper within their own soul. It feels like a Piscean journey through the reservoir of our spirit.
Another artist I discovered that had this full Moon placement is saxophone player Sonny Rollins. His parents hailed from the Virgin Islands, and he was known for his calypso style, with very heavy Caribbean influence. His music immediately wants your body to move in planes that the normal schedules don’t allow. Transported to sunny islands, close your eyes, move the hips and feel the oceanic winds.
These artists are an expression of the Moon at her fullest in the waters of Pisces, fishes swimming with no boundaries, exploring the depths that our soul is blessed to traverse in.
Tune in to one of these artists this weekend, and see how far you allow yourself to dive.
