Mercury Matters

Mercury matters right now in matters of mind, information and flexibility.

Mercury, seems to be getting highlighted a lot in the last month. Under the auspice of this past Pisces New Moon, Hermes immersed us in a new language. March 3, 2025 the quicksilver planet moves into the sign of Aries, hitting the 0° point, a very specific and sensitive degree in the zodiac. Mercury is the most mutable of the planets, adjusting to the surroundings. Medieval Astrologer, Abu Ma’shar speaks to Mercury’s nature, “Mercury bends with his nature toward the one who is complected to him.” Neither male nor female, diurnal or nocturnal, it is all dependent on his placement in the zodiac. Aries, ruled by the planet Mars, is defintely a vibe shift.

0° Aries is the inception point of the beginning of the zodiac, denoting new beginnings, spring, material manifestation, and quick action. A martial ruled fire sign, encouraging passionate action, assertive independence, and aggressive measures. Mercury in Aries may just bend to these martial desires. Vettius Valens, 2nd century Hellenistic astrologer also speaks to the changeable nature of Mercury, “This star’s effects go in many directions, depending on the changes of the zodiac and the interactions of the stars, and yields quite varied results: knowledge for some, selling for others, service for others, trade or teaching for others, farming or temple service or public for still others. As for the end result—Mercury will make everything capricious in outcome and quite disturbed. Even more, it causes those having this star in malefic signs or degrees to become even worse.”

In the coming months, this 0° point will also be activated by both Neptune and Saturn’s ingress into Aries. Plates are shifting, these slower moving planets shifting into a new sign point to very palpable sea changes.

Themes of new independence, untapped power, fiery assertion, heightened war and the fog of it are very real. There are personal and collective pushes towards independence and self-reliance, and this will only strengthen as spring ushers in these planetary ingresses.

Mercury, the planet of the mind, communication and rational wisdom, he moves into fiery Aries and this can light a match on our own words. Dragon fire comes to mind. The mind and speech can become hot and inflamed in this martial house of Aries, home to the ram. We can find ourselves puffing up our chest and moving forward with such assertive force, yet we must beware of how much we expand our fire, be weary of extreme bravado. What we think and how we speak now may undergo a real radical shift come March 15, when Mercury stations retrograde. This is also directly hot on the heels of the March 14 Virgo Eclipse. This is why Mercury matters right now.

Eclipsed Mind

March 14, we receive a lunar eclipse in the sign of Virgo, which is ruled and exalted by Mercury. This Virgo lunar eclipse is also sandwiched by Moon transits to both Mars and Saturn. A lunar eclipse in Virgo can expose unknown facts, unknown factors that lend more details to a specific truth.

On the collective level, we all have been feeling the swirling and mind-bending current events taking place. All opinions and politics aside, this eclipse will certainly reveal and expose potent information. It could also further incite and fuel hot button topics. Yet the retrograde period that begins in eclipse season will no doubt revisit, reverse, and review what has been previously known.

Mercury will be weaving and dodging firestorms of intel, and just when you think you have a grasp on the narrative, I encourage you to pause and wait. For just as quickly as you thought you grabbed hold of the truth, it too will go up in flames.

On the individual level, we could see this Virgo lunar eclipse revealing aspects in our life that we grasp on a little too tightly, identifying with our own true gospel. Virgo is the sign of purity, and sometimes we identify so tightly, that what we speak is more virtue signaling than our own real values. We have locked our own values up so strongly with the collective, making our own minds impenetrable to dualism. We may find our own words spitting out too fast, too hot, and too sharp or our thoughts and beliefs locked up too tight. Mercury is going to make us eventually bite our tongue, and maybe even swallow our pride. Mercury’s strength is speed and flexibility, and when this retrograde is over, it will be interesting to see how ones’s own mind has remain opened and malleable to the information coming through or how one has remained so stiff in thought that it breaks on contact.

Mercury reenters Pisces on the March 29th, cooling our mind, tempering our words, perhaps even reminding us of the language of fish. Mercury will station direct on April 7 at 26° Pisces and will reenter Aries, with a wiser tongue on April 16, 2025.

Mercury Remediation

Mercury is fast, currently firey, and it ushers in real change this March. This change is setting the stage for many upcoming planetary ingresses, and it is important to get our mind straight, centered, and grounded. Tune out the excessive noise, news, distractions. Unplug from social media and plug into humanity. Meditate on duality, journal on the meaning of light and dark or right and wrong, grab coffee with a friend who holds another POV. Utilize the strong and loud 0° Aries energy as a toggle degree to shift your own life and maybe perspective towards the gradient of dualism this world offers. As spring looks to bloom, seed your own mind for fruitful growth.
